Welcome to our flute studio, I’m thrilled that you’re here!

Hello, friends! My name is Lauren Remmers and I am the founder and lead teacher of York County Flute Studio. I have been teaching flute in both private and classroom settings for over 15 years and have been teaching in the York County area for the past 9. I am also a performing flutist and you can catch me playing principal flute with Union Symphony Orchestra, as well as appearing frequently with Aiken Symphony, Rock Hill Symphony, and Augusta Symphony. I have also performed with the South Carolina Philharmonic, the Charleston Symphony, and the Winston-Salem Symphony. Additionally I am the piccoloist with the Carolinas Wind Orchestra, a local wind ensemble, and am proud to be a founding member of local flute ensemble, the “Silversmiths.”

I absolutely love performing, but York County Flute Studio is definitely my primary passion in life! I would love to share with you the story of how it came to be.

You see, I mostly grew up here in York County, and I pretty much knew that I wanted to be a flutist ever since I got the hang of the instrument in beginning band class. I made the decision at an early age that I would major in flute performance in college, which I did, attending the University of South Carolina to receive my bachelor’s, and then Boston University to receive my Master’s degree. But I also developed a passion for flute education at an early age, teaching lessons and masterclasses all throughout my high school and college career. I focused some of my studies on educational techniques like Alexander technique, gained experience conducting small ensembles, and even worked with toddlers in a music environment as part of my first job  after graduating.

Chloe is a 10-pound terrier mix who hangs out mostly downstairs in our classroom area, and absolutely LOVES when her flute friends drop in. In her view, the whole point of York County Flute Studio is to provide her with sweet friends who give her tons of attention. Playful and friendly, Chloe greets students on their way up to the flute loft for their lessons, and then sees them off as they head out again. She sometimes even tries to follow her new friends home! Trust me when I say that Chloe REALLY can’t wait to meet you!

G. G. is a small Maine Coone kitty with a large mane, who lives upstairs in the area of our flute loft. She can be a little shy at first, but during lessons, don’t be surprised if she sneaks past the door to peek in! She warms up to the students easily, especially knowing that at the end of every lesson comes her favorite time of day- receiving attention and kitty treats from the students!

earlier age, skills that could have prepared me even better for my future goals. I was determined that I could include programs in my own studio that would offer a more complete music education than typical flute lessons alone ever could, even for students who didn’t participate in a band program. I set out to create an environment that would help students become the most well-rounded, creative, and confident young flutists in the area. Since then I have been continuously growing the studio- adding students, guest teachers, special events, camps, and more. Many of my students have been accepted in to advanced youth ensembles, been finalists at competitions, and have even won flute scholarships. Several have indeed gone on to become successful music majors in college, but I’m equally proud of those who had different pursuits and continued playing their instruments in other capacities. Last year I decided we needed a name that better represented our purpose- a complete flute school that serves the local community, helping young dreams come true- and York County Flute Studio was officially born! It is hard to put in to words just how grateful I am to be surrounded by the nurturing, supportive, and encouraging community of students and families, as well as our frequent guest teachers, that is York County Flute Studio. All I can say is a big THANK YOU to the community for their support so far, and I am very excited about the many spectacular accomplishments still to come for our students!

Then, about 9 years ago, my husband and I moved back to York County from the Boston area, and that very week, I began teaching lessons and classes at local high schools. I was immediately hooked on the feeling of helping flute students in the same area that gave me the amazing start in life that I had! BUT- I wanted to take it a step further. Through my own unique musical endeavors, I had learned exactly what a young flutist needs to be successful in any manner of music-making, whether they want to major or minor in music in college, just want to participate in a college music ensemble or community band for fun, or even to simply remain a life-long music lover. I also knew what types of experiences and training I wished I had been exposed to at an

G.G. is a small Maine Coon kitty with a large and fluffy mane who was rescued from the woods and now enjoys living the pampered life. You’ll find her hanging out upstairs by the flute loft during lessons. A graduate of Western Carolina University, Mr. Davis played flute, piccolo, and bagpipes in the U.S. Air Force field bands for 24 years. John retired from the Air Force in 2012 to teach band and Jr. ROTC. John has performed with the Omaha Symphony, Macon Symphony, and the Union Symphony. He currently teaches Jr. ROTC at Crest High School.

John has been a frequent guest artist and teacher with York County Flute Studio throughout recent years, and is always a huge hit with our students! A bass flute specialist, he has taught bass flute classes here at the studio, and assisted the students with learning how to play the “big flutes.” He has also conducted and rehearsed some of our flute ensembles and has appeared on some of our recitals.
